Going: Standard to slow

D raw: No data availiable for the All-Weather track HUDDERSFIELD Falcons rounded off 2018 with their Christmas Charity Trial at Horn Hill above New Mill.

Ten sections had been plotted around the compact quarry venue with rock steps, climbs and tight turns for the riders to contend with.

On the hard course, Will Tolson continued his run of good form with a commanding win, losing only a single mark, which was comfortably in front of the chasing duo of Ben Robinson and Simon Tyas.

The Clubman A riders had sections one, three, five, seven and eight as hard course options which, in the end, failed to test the leading contenders as all the top five riders returned totals in single figures.

Tony Heath left his faithful Sherco at home and instead rode a four stroke Beta, which certainly didn’t do him any harm as he posted the best performance with a total of two, in front of Richard Beever and Simon Slater who returned totals of four, with the tie-break ruling going in Beever’s favour.

Former road race superstar Jamie Whitham aced the Clubman B course with a dominant win, finishing well in front of Dave Morley and Velocette mounted Chris Haigh.

Haigh was the only rider to master the rock slabs and turns on section four, keeping his feet firmly on the foot rests on every lap. Whitham lost his only other mark here to make up his winning total of three.

It was an Atha family feud on the White Course with Nick Atha just doing enough to beat off runner-up Will Atha, rounding out the top three was Andy Hirst on his booming four stroke Montesa. Section eight was the main punisher with no one getting through feet up, winner Nick Atha was best with a total of five.

The proceeds of the Charity Trial, added to by a similar amount from the Landowner Shepley Spring and Co who sponsor trials international James Dabill, will enable Falcon to donate £500 each to Yorkshire Air ambulance and Kirkwood Hospice in Huddersfield.
