A WOMAN who assaulted two strangers at a Cuban-style bar in Huddersfield town centre claimed that she was provoked.

The attacks happened at the Revolucion de Cuba in Cross Church Street shortly after midnight on December 22.

Kirklees Magistrates Court in Huddersfield was told that the first victim, Katie Lockwood, was inside the nightspot with friends celebrating their last working day before Christmas.

Prosecutor Nadine Clough said that Miss Lockwood then saw the second victim, Christine Wilson, who she knew, and greeted her.

She told magistrates: “Out of nowhere, a female she didn’t know came from behind her, turned around and punched Miss Lockwood to the nose for no reason whatsover.”

The court was told that Miss Wilson then left the bar and came across the woman responsible, Danielle Kelly, outside on the street.

Mrs Clough said: “She initially thought that Kelly had been assaulted by somebody else and tried to help her.

“Kelly turned around and pulled Miss Wilson to the floor by her hair and punched her several times to the head.

“Quite a chunk of her hair was pulled out.”

Magistrates were told that police arrived but were forced to use a form of pepper spray on the women because they couldn’t separate them.

Kelly, 35, claimed that she “lost it” after the victims abused her mother.

She pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating.

Magistrates said they needed a full report before they can sentence her.

This will take place on January 31 and in the meantime Kelly, of Penistone Road in Waterloo, is banned from contacting the two victims.
