‘Sad to see David go, but the right time to part ways’

FORMER Town boss Peter Jackson believes that it was the right time for David Wagner to leave the Terriers.

The club parted company with Wagner on mutual terms on the back of their 0-0 draw with Cardiff City.

The result left Huddersfield rock bottom of the Premier League with a return to the Championship looking likely.

Jackson says he is sad to see Wagner leave after a magnificent spell in charge.

He said: “David has lost nine league games on the trot but I’m disappointed for him as he has done so much for the club and the town of Huddersfield.

“Fans will be disappointed because we all have faith in David Wagner.

“He needs a break from football management and football itself, which probably means the correct decision has been taken.

“He said he would have stopped on to the end of the season but that probably wasn’t the right decision to take the club forward.

“The board has been brilliant with him and he needs a break from management so it’s the correct decision to do it now.”

Asked about who he saw replacing Wagner at the John Smith’s Stadium, Jackson suggested that Mark Hudson could step up to replace him for the rest of season.

He added: “When David Wagner was appointed three-and-a-half years ago, everyone was saying David who? “Dean Hoyle and the board will have someone in charge, Mark Hudson is well thought of at the club. There will be certainly a lot of candidates for the job but they could keep it in house.

“You look at the position they are in it will take a miracle to get them out of the situation they are in. “Mark has been in and around Wagner in the last three years and he will have learned a lot from him. Maybe it could be the step that the club decide to take.

“They will be careful at Huddersfield, it’s a well-run club and I’m sure they will made the right decisions.”
