Hudson odds on to keep hotseat at Terriers
The 33-year-old German masterminded a stunning Schalke 04 comeback in the Revierderby against Borussia Dortmund in November 2017, inspiring his team to fight back from 4-0 down at half-time to earn a point at the Westfalenstadion.
After earning a hugely unlikely point, goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann revealed what Tedesco said in the dressing room at the interval.
He said: “The coach called us together and we sat really tightly.
“Then he knelt down in front of us and said that we had to learn from the game right then and there, that halves of football like that can always happen. We had to go about things differently in the second half, wear our hearts on our sleeves and approach the second half as if it were a new game.
“He reminded us that Dortmund were going through a tough spell and if we could get a goal back, things could get nervy for them.”
All three would bring similar characteristics to Wagner, but if any of them are being considered by the club, only time will tell.
Only one thing is for sure – the club has come too far to play it safe and opt for a standard Premier League name. TOWN U23s boss Mark Hudson is the new favourite to replace David Wagner as head coach of the Terriers.
The 47-year-old German left the Yorkshire side by mutual consent on Monday evening, much to the shock of fans and pundits alike.
After the announcement, former Town defender Sam Allardyce became the bookies’ favourite to take over, but the ex-Newcastle United, Everton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace manager admitted it was ‘highly unlikely’ he would take up the John Smith’s Stadium hot seat.
As a result of Allardyce’s comments, Hudson’s odds have been cut from 8/1 on Monday to 13/8 yesterday, making him the front runner to take over from the recently-departed Wagner.
Big Sam’s own odds have drifted from 2/1 to 20/1.
According to Oddschecker, 48 per cent of all bets on the next permanent manager yesterday morning were placed on Hudson, with money continuing to pile in on the 36-year-old.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “There was only one man in the betting when it came to who will take over from David Wagner – and Big Sam was the man.
“However, Allardyce is heavily on the drift and has been taken over by what would be an internal promotion, with Mark Hudson accruing half of all bets in the last four hours.”
Hudson will take charge of the Terriers for Sunday’s trip to titlechasing Manchester City at the John Smith’s Stadium.
