It should not be more housing at any cost!
I HAVE received the inspectors’ final report on the Local Plan. It was very disappointing to note that, after years of hard work spent in opposing this plan on several issues, it will now go ahead, with very few concessions and changes as Labour is set to drive it through on February 27.
I have extensively consulted with local people and their views have not been recognised or reflected in the modified plans. Many raised concerns over development of our local greenbelt and beautiful green spaces, seemingly to no avail.
While the plan may technically be legally sound in planning terms, does it provide a sustainable planning framework which allows sustainable and managed growth?
The scale of development in Lepton and Fenay Bridge is significant and there needs to be consideration about how the developments will impact on the area and affect connectivity in terms of access to services and transport systems, as an untenable burden is being placed on the Penistone Road/ Wakefield Road corridors increasing both air and noise pollution.
The impact on our health has not been evaluated.
Additionally, it will be necessary to ensure developments address local need and are sensitive to the existing communities and ensure that any development will be effectively managed.
It should not be a question of lots more housing at any price!
No-one has listened to the voice of local people and the voice of reason has been ignored! we live and the planet which we share. Rural areas have become a dumping ground for all types of flytipping.
The irony of famous people calling on us to save the world from overheating or plastic pollution is not lost on me when we cannot even keep the areas where we live free from litter.
We have adults and children alike quoting chapter and verse about global warming, plastics in the oceans and recycling yet we cannot discard a sweet wrapper into a waste bin.
Nearly every day on my morning walk to my newsagents I collect cans, McDonald’s take-away bags with polystyrene containers, Costa Coffee cups and sweet wrappers.
What is wrong with people? Don’t they care about the areas in which they live? Should our schools be impressing more on the young that littering is socially and environmentally unacceptable? Should we have more advertising expressing how anti-social litter is and how it is a blight on our areas? Should we have more litter bins to encourage people to dispose of their litter more correctly?
Just for once parents could take charge in their offspring’s social educational.
These problems are not getting better, they are worsening. We have litter louts and we have people who will not clean up after their dogs. What’s happened to taking responsibility?
