Club secure two signings as star man Hodgson is set to return

- By BRANDON REEVES

HUDDERSFIELD Rugby Union have announced the double signing of former star man Elliot Hodgson from National League 1 side Sale FC, as well as young Centre Adam Williamson, formerly of Northampton Saints’ academy.

Despite being out of action last weekend due to postponement of their trip to Tynedale, work has still been done behind the scenes to secure the signatures.

All but two fixtures had to be postponed due to the winter weather freezing the majority of pitches in the league.

Williamson, 19, had been a part of the youth setup at Franklin’s Gardens and joins ‘Field alongside his studies at Leeds Beckett University.

The 28-year-old Hodgson, meanwhile, has largely been involved in Sale’s league campaign this season but the difficult commuting in National 1 has paved the way for a Lockwood Park homecoming.

A former Field man, Hodgson has enjoyed experience in both Rugby League and Union, once turning out for the Giants in Super League and was named Sky Sports man of the match in his first appearance.

The pacy back also received the Samsung December try of the month accolade in 2016-17 with a mazy run from inside his own half against Kendal.

Head Coach Gareth Lewis has spoken of his delight in the capture of the versatile Hodgson. “I’m delighted Elliot is returning to the club. He’s been performing well in National One at Sale FC but has found the commute difficult.

“He contacted me about the possibility of rejoining us and expressed a real desire to buy into our club culture and help the team.

“On his day Elliot is an X factor player and his signature will strengthen an already talented back line.“

Hodgson said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Sale FC and would like to thank them for the opportunity.

“The travel, my own work commitments and my family are key factors in my decision to move on.

“I have some fond memories of my time here and hope we can create some more.”
