Work to be done to avoid an unwanted league record

TOWN need to get their shooting boots on if they are to avoid an unwanted Premier League record.

The John Smith’s Stadium side have netted just 13 times in 25 top-flight matches this season and have the worst shot conversion record in the top five leagues in Europe.

Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen remains top scorer with three of those goals, while midfielders Aaron Mooy and Philip Billing have two each to their credit in this 2018-19 campaign.

Terence Kongolo, Alex Pritchard , Christopher Schindler and Jon Gorence Stankovic have contributed one goal each, while striker Steve Mounie also has one and is the only striker to net.

Town’s other was an own goal, by Fulham’s Timothy FosuMensah, in the only home win of the campaign.

Town need to score eight more goals in the next 13 games to avoid becoming the new lowest goalscorers in Premier League history.

The current record holders are Derby County, with just 20 during the 2007-08 season.

Even if Town beat that total, they could still end up with the fewest goals scored at home in a Premier League season.

That unwanted record goes to current leaders Manchester City in 2006-07 with 10.

At the moment, as they prepare to take on Arsenal, Town have netted just five.

Eight of Town’s goals have come away from home, so they need just one more on their travels to avoid joining Middlesbrough (1995-96), Southampton (98-99), Sheffield United (2006-07) and Derby (07-08) as co-record holders on eight. DANISH goalkeeper Jonas Lossl reckons 24 or 25 more points will be enough to keep Huddersfield Town in the Premier League.

The popular stopper, who celebrated his 30th birthday this week, accepts it’s a tough ask when Town have picked up just 11 from their opening 25 matches.

But as Town prepare to take on Arsenal at home, he refuses to give up hope and says he has every faith
