Aussie Matt warms to pace for French test

in the south of France.

“The result wasn’t what we hoped for but I got a taste of what Super League is like,” the former Canterbury Bulldogs player said.

“I was just happy to get out there and play footy.

“I don’t think it was one of my best games of rugby and there’s a lot to work on, lots of room for improvement for me.

“The boys have said the south of France is a nice part of the world so I’m looking forward to getting away for a few days and it’s a bit warmer down there so I’m looking forward to that.

“Everyone says they get a good crowd and they’re really hard to beat in France so I’m expecting a hard game but I’m confident we can get a result.

“We just need to improve on what we didn’t do as well last week we missed a few opportunities, our end of sets was pretty poor that’s on me and Farrell to fix so if we can work on those things and in defence there’s a couple of things we need to work on as well so if we can pinpoint a few of those areas and we can finish well it will put us in good stead.”

Frawley found himself with an unexpected half-back partner for his debut with 20-year-old Izaac Farrell drafted in at short notice for an injured Lee Gaskell – and he is set to keep the role for today’s game.

“It wasn’t ideal but I thought Faz did a really good job,” Frawley said. “He was on debut and I thought he was one of our better players.”

Frawley believes more is yet to come from him once he gets more games behind him. He said: “It’s hard to get ready only one game in but I think it will bring the best out of me, first couple of months its cold and wet it’s probably more of a conservative style of footy but when it starts to dry up and when it gets sunnier we can try to throw the footy around.

“I grew up in Canberra so it gets pretty cold, probably colder than what it was the other night and I haven’t played there for four to five years now, in my childhood playing freezing cold nights was something you have to deal with and you can’t use it as an excuse. The difference has been fine.

“It’s a long season and pre-season is a lot shorter.

“You’ve got a couple of months of intense training and if I was back home, I’d still be training, it’s trying to squeeze as much as you can into that preseason and building your base, your fitness base and getting your strength up and it puts you in good stead for the rest of the year and I was focused on that during the pre-season, and when you get
