Woman admits assaulting cop
A CRYING and hysterical woman assaulted a police officer when he arrested her boyfriend.
Police were called to Rachel Brook’s home in Lawton Street, Primrose Hill, on January 19 following reports of a domestic incident.
Vanessa Jones, prosecuting, said: “When they got there Miss Brook wasn’t too happy and didn’t really want to assist them.
“But they did enter the house and found the man hiding under the bed and arrested him.
“She became hysterical and crying. She went towards the male and tried to console him and put her arms around him.
“Then she raised her arm and elbowed the officer who was behind her in the face.”
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to assault by beating of an emergency worker.
Mrs Jones added: “The officers were performing their duties in an emergency. They were responding to what they thought was a domestic incident.”
Kirklees magistrates were told that the offence was out of character for Brook as she held no previous convictions.
Tasleem Akhtar, mitigating, explained that her client lost her job as a care worker because of the incident. She added that the single parent had a lot of pressure on her and “she’s extremely regretful at finding herself in this situation.”
Magistrates ordered Brook to pay £50 to the police officer she assaulted.
She also has to pay £85 court costs and £30 victim surcharge.
