The eyes have it as ‘bug’ sends women ‘on the lash’

“My eldest client is 72, and we have mums and grandmas, you name it. It gives them confidence and ease in the morning because they don’t need mascara or eyeliner.

“But they all get the lash bug - it is definitely a thing. People say they’re only coming in for one occasion but then they keep coming back because they can’t live without them. Once they’ve had them they don’t want to live without them.”

It takes around two hours to extend each individual eyelash with a false lash to make it look longer, fuller and darker.

Jilly, 30, who lives in Dalton, said: “It is quite a skill. Each person has between 90 and 120 lashes on their top lid so it takes quite a bit of time. We use a minimal amount of adhesive to glue each hair to each natural lash.

“You shouldn’t be able to feel them at all if they’re done properly, which is something we always pride ourselves on.”

As well as running a busy salon, mum-ofthree Jilly also makes time to run eyelash extension courses to help others train to become eyelash specialist­s.

“We’ve been inundated in January and are actually struggling to fit people in,” says Jilly. “The courses run in the salon over three days
