COURT IS TOLD HE LIVES ON JUST £35 A WEEK

-

A BANNED driver was caught behind the wheel just four days after his disqualification was imposed.

Idris Rashid, of Ravensknowle Road in Dalton, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

He pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and using a vehicle without insurance.

Vanessa Jones, prosecuting, said that Rashid caught the attention of police as he drove a Vauxhall Astra along Marcus Way in Mount on January 8.

They noted that he had no insurance policy for his vehicle. Further checks on the Police National Computer showed that the 28-yearold was also an unlicensed driver.

Mrs Jones said: “His record shows that on January 4 he was banned from driving for 12 months for driving without insurance and driving while over the prescribed limit.

“He’s managed comply with) that four days.”

Mrs Jones said that the immigration status of Rashid, aided in court by a Kurdish interpreter, is currently uncomfirmed.

Rasid, who was not represented, told magistrates: “I’ve got nothing to say. I drove the car, I admit it.”

He said that the car belonged to a friend. Magistrates were told that he lives on £35 a week in the same household as four or five people with the same question mark over their immigration status.

Magistrates endorsed Rashid’s driving licence with eight penalty points.

They fined him £50 and ordered him to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.
