The scoring concluded with the last kick of the game as Catalan’s Matty Smith converted a drop goal.
Although the result now makes it two defeats in two games for Giants, they will have left France knowing that the result could have been so different had they been given their fair share of luck.
The result leaves Giants second bottom of Super League, ahead of Leeds Rhinos only on points difference after two games.
With a week off to recuperate and reflect, Giants now turn their attentions towards the visit of Warrington, with the goal of claiming that illusive first victory of the season.
Meanwhile, Salford are the unlikely earlyseason pacesetters in Betfred Super League after running out 24-0 winners over London Broncos at the AJ Bell Stadium.
The Red Devils followed up their opening 34-14 win at Huddersfield with another emphatic result to go top of the embryonic table.
One of only four unbeaten teams after two rounds, Salford will be delighted with their start but coach Ian Watson knows it is still early days.
Full-back Niall Evalds followed up his hat-trick against Huddersfield with one of four tries while Watson will be delighted with a defence that has conceded just two tries in 160 minutes so far. UNDERBANK Rangers are out of the Coral Challenge Cup after a 30-26 defeat at home to Featherstone Lions in the second round.

season’s top scorer Darnell McIntosh put in a stand-out performance
YORKSHIRE have appointed Steven Patterson as club captain on a full-time basis across all three formats.
The veteran seamer initially took on the responsibility in May last year at the beginning of the Royal London One-Day Cup after Gary Ballance was given time off for personal reasons.
Patterson’s separate finger fractures meant he was one of five players to captain Yorkshire last season – only the fourth time in the county’s history that had occurred.
But the 35-year-old, who has taken 372 wickets in 140 firstclass matches for the club since making his debut in 2005, has now taken the reins permanently.
“It came about in a strange fashion last year and I didn’t have much time to prepare for it,” Patterson told yorkshireccc.com.
“I just ran with it as best I could and tried to get us through the season. Having the winter to plan and prepare will enable me to put my stamp on it.
“I’ve grown up supporting the club from being a young kid. It was my dream to play for Yorkshire, so to go and play for and then captain Yorkshire means everything to me.”
Director of cricket Martyn Moxon added: “He did fantastically well last summer both on and off the field. It’s an easy decision for him to continue as club captain for the foreseeable future.”
