House gutted by blaze
WOMAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
A WOMAN was taken to hospital following a fire which left a Mirfield house gutted.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were called to the residential property opposite Battyeford Sporting Club off the main A644 Huddersfield Road where a significant blaze had taken hold.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed a woman had been taken to hospital.
She said: “Police were called by the fire service at 8.35am to reports of a fire in a residential property in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield.
“One woman has been taken to hospital.”
One ambulance left the scene about 9.30am and the second left at 10.15am.
Fire engines from Dewsbury, Halifax, Rastrick and Cleckheaton attended along with an aerial appliance from Halifax.
Smoke was billowing from the house when the first firefighters arrived at the scene. Crews brought the blaze under control and spent two hours at the scene.
Fire investigators and the police are looking into the cause and spend all day sifting through the charred remains. Firefighters declined to reveal further information on how the fire may have started pending the investigation.
There was no update on the condition of the woman taken to hospital.
Traffic was stopped from Cooper Bridge back towards Mirfield and long delays were reported in the area.
