I’LL POSTPONE MY MAN-FLU
MY daughter Siobhan has been over from Ireland for a week to help look after a friend after a serious operation. Two of our Irish grandchildren came with her. I loaned her the car, thinking she would use it only occasionally, but she kept it the entire time she was here, which made me appreciate our move into the village rather than living on the outskirts.
We hardly missed it as Honley has a vibrant and healthy centre with shops, pubs and restaurants.
Siobhan even drove to Manchester Airport for the flight back, only allowing me access to the steering wheel when we arrived at Terminal 1. It was good to see them and they even left me a small present: a cold and runny nose. Thanks Ruauri and Sorcha.
Kids get them all the time and shake them off. With adults they can stick around for ever. This is my second cold of the winter and I’m dosing up with medicines and slathering enough Vaseline over my nostrils for a crossChannel swim.
I’m on the cusp of declaring it man-flu and taking to my bed. Or I could go to the pub tonight. The walk – plus social intercourse – might help.
Maybe I’ll have man-flu tomorrow.
