Arsenal fans see red over Kachunga crunch
TOWN put in one of their best performances in recent weeks against Arsenal.
Jan Siewert’s Terriers lost 2-1 to the Gunners at the John Smith’s Stadium, but the German head coach was proud of his side’s fighting spirit, which saw Huddersfield score their first goal at home since January 2.
According to some Arsenal fans, though, one Town player took that fighting spirit too far.
As Elias Kachunga tried to spin away from Arsenal’s left-back, Said Kolasinac, he received some pretty close attention from the Bosnian defender.
Kachunga managed to wriggle free enough to knock the ball down the touchline and the two chased after it, grappling with each other to get there first. The Arsenal defender just managed to toe it out of play with a robust slide at the feet of Kachunga and it is at this point that Arsenal fans claim the Town attacker stamped on his opponent.
The striker’s studs undoubtedly make contact with Kolasinac’s knee and then face, but whether it was intentional is less clear.
It appears as though Kolasinac’s knee slides under Kachunga’s foot and then the momentum of the challenge carries his studs up the defender’s leg and into his face.
That is the way referee Jonathon Moss saw it, who actually gave a free-kick to Town after the incident.
Some Arsenal fans have a different opinion, though, calling the challenge by Kachunga intentional and worthy of a red card.
