Man left with a bloody nose in attack after row over DVDs

-

A PASSENGER got out of a car and grabbed a man by the neck in a row over some DVDs.

The victim suffered a bloodied nose in the attack when he was shoved into a garden fence by Jordan Bedford.

The row happened in Partridge Crescent, Thornhill, Dewsbury, on October 18, Kirklees magistrates were told.

Prosecutor Vanessa Jones said: “There was a disagreement between the defendant and Steven Kelleher about some property being returned.

“They had something of each other’s and the conversation deteriorated.

“Bedford, who was a passenger in a vehicle, stopped to speak to Mr Kelleher, who was a pedestrian.

“Then he got out of the vehicle and assaulted Mr Kelleher.

“He grabbed him by his neck, forcing him backwards and pushing him over into a fence.

“There was also some headbutting.” Bedford admitted assault by beating, as well as driving while otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a vehicle without insurance.

These charges relate to a separate incident in Dewsbury on January 23.

Bedford, who was not represented, said: “It was a civil matter over property. I’m very remorseful for what I’ve done and I won’t do it again.

“I’d like to go about my life now and stay away from Mr Kelleher.”

While the 22-year-old admitted assaulting Mr Kelleher, he did not accept that he headbutted him.

Because of this a Newton hearing, a form of mini-trial, will have to be held at the Huddersfield court to determine the true facts of the case before he can be sentenced.

This will take place on March 19 and Bedford, of Smithy Walk in Dewsbury, was banned from contacting Mr Kelleher in the meantime.
