Travellers set up camp near large store

been in discussion with GMI and also walked the site to confirm the fence is secure. We are currently discussing our options regarding how we can stop deer getting onto the site. I understand that the sika deer can jump very high. We are seeking advice and will do whatever we can to ensure this doesn’t continue.

“We would strongly recommend that any member of the public who has any concerns regarding the site contact GMI immediately and allow them time to respond.

“We do not want anybody’s safety being put at risk entering the site.

“On Sunday, for example, there was security on the site. If the deer had been reported at the site office then GMI could have dealt with it immediately.”

There were 400 objections to Aflex’s plan as residents of the upmarket Woodland Glade estate, off Bradley Road, raised concerns about having a huge site handling plastics and chemicals close to homes and ancient woodland.

But the site, in a business park close to Bradley Park Golf Course, had been allocated for business use by Kirklees Council almost 20 years ago.

Councillors unanimously approved the plan at a meeting last November.

Aflex, which builds hoses for the automotive and pharmaceutical industries, has said it hopes to employ 500 people at the site by 2028. ACTION is being taken to move on a group of travellers who set up camp on private land near a large supermarket.

Caravans and vans have been parked near the Morrison’s store on Jubilee Way at Elland, behind the petrol station.

A Calderdale Council spokesman said: “It is private land so we can’t enforce anything.

“The private owner is looking at taking action.”

Council officers had become aware of the presence of the travellers on Tuesday, although the exact day of their arrival is not known.

Residents posted their concerns on social media.

One man accused others of being “obsessed” with travellers, which he said amounted to racism.

Other locals said they were concerned about littering and other anti-social behaviour.

A spokesman for Morrison’s said company staff had not been made aware of any issues.
