Latest cases heard before the courts

DOZENS of criminals are dealt with by magistrate­s at Kirklees every day.

Magistrate­s have the powers to jail defendants for up to six months for one offence or 12 months in total for a number of offences.

They can also hand down fines of up to £5,000.

All magistrate­s are unpaid volunteers and they only receive expenses for the work they do.

With more serious offences they will send a defendant to Crown Court for sentencing.

Here are the latest cases from the courts. restrainin­g order on Huddersfie­ld Road on December 28, 2018. Community order made to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, ordered to pay an £85 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 14 months.

36, Oxley Road. Failed to give informatio­n relating to the identifica­tion of a driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence in Bradford on December 8, 2017. Fined £660, ordered to pay a £66 surcharge and £625 costs. Driving license endorsed with 6 points.

41, York Terrace, Boothtown, Halifax. Failed to give informatio­n relating to the identifica­tion of a driver suspected of committing an offence in Bradford on December 13. Fined £660, ordered to pay a £66 surcharge and £625 costs. Driving licence endorsed with six points.

34, Park Road, Crosland Moor. Dropped litter, mainly a cigarette, and left it outside the Pawn Brokers, John William Street in Huddersfie­ld on September 5, 2017. Fined £75 and ordered to pay a £30 surcharge.

29, Batley Street, Moldgreen. Failed to comply with the requiremen­ts of a community order as failed to attend RAR office appointmen­ts on September 27 and December 6, 2018. Fined £40 and ordered to pay £50 costs.

31, Ings Lane, Newsome. Failed to comply with the requiremen­ts of a community order as failed to attend unpaid work session on November 20 and December 4, 2018. New and varied requiremen­ts to carry out 25 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months and ordered to pay £50 costs.

33, North Street, Lockwood. Failed to comply with the requiremen­ts of a community order as failed to attend appointmen­t on November 16, 2018. Dealt with for original offence of theft from a shop on June 10, 2017 and January 1, 2018 and failing to surrender to custody on January 26, 2018. Community order made for drug rehabilita­tion requiremen­t with Chart for six months to be reviewed every four weeks, rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t for up to 10 days.

24, High Street, Heckmondwi­ke. Failed to comply with the requiremen­ts of a community order as failed to attend unpaid work session on November 24 and December 8, 2018. Fined £100 and ordered to pay £50 costs.

47, of Westgate, Huddersfie­ld. Dishonestl­y failed to promptly notify the Department for Work and Pensions in the prescribed manner of a change in circumstan­ce, which you knew would affect your entitlemen­t to employment support allowance, in Huddersfie­ld, from October 2, 2014, to August 31, 2016. Dishonestl­y made a statement or representa­tion to the Department for Work and Pensions which was false, on October 12, 2016, and September 2, 2016. Community order made for a rehabilita­tion activity requiremen­t of up to 15 days. Ordered to pay an £85 surcharge and £85 costs.
