Jermaine is on track to end his injury torment

- By ANDREA MENA

JERMAINE McGillvary admits it’s been ‘killing’ him not being able to play for Huddersfield Giants so far this season.

The England winger has missed the opening two matches of the campaign after suffering a hamstring injury in the warm-up match against Wakefield.

McGillvary has had to suffer seeing the Giants lose to both Salford Red Devils at home and then on the road to Catalans Dragons in France.

But that torment will soon be over, with the 30-year-old on track to return when Simon Woolford’s men host Warrington Wolves at the John Smith’s Stadium a week tonight.

And for McGillvary, that it can’t come too soon.

He said: “It’s killing me. I’m probably the worst person to be around when I’m injured, but I should be fit for the next game.

“Injuries are never good, and I’ve seemed to get them a bit often than usual recently so, hopefully, my injury problems are behind me.

“But I hopefully will be fit for the Warrington game.”

He may not have been playing, but McGillvary has been keeping a close eye on matters on the pitch.

And from what he’s seen, he believes the squad are looking in good shape for the visit of the Challenge Cup and Super League Grand Finalists - despite the opening two defeats.

“It’s been good from what I’ve seen,” he said. “Obviously I’ve not been a part of the training as I’m still in rehab but I’ve been watching alongside the field and it looks good.

“I just want to be part of it so, hopefully, next week I get to train and get to pull on the shirt and play in that game.”

“I thought we started really well against Catalans at the weekend.

“Our defence was good and we scored a nice early try, but I thought all in all the game probably wasn’t what we practised in pre-season.

“So we were a bit disappointed, but you know, it’s something to build on going forward.”

TICKETS for Giants’ next home game, against the Warrington Wolves are now on sale from giantsrl.com/tickets, by calling 01484 484159 or by visiting the Giants club store.
