Bounce boys are in the zone for success
TRAMPOLINING TRIO EARN A PLACE IN NATIONAL FINALS
YOUNGSTERS at a Newsome school have a real spring in their step after success in a trampoline competition.
Pupils from Hillside Primary School took part in the Schools Zonal Trampoline finals in Belfast.
And Jason Mobambo, aged 10, Leo Aka, also 10 and Romelle Scotter-Russell, 11, took second place in the team competition.
The boys had already won the regional team trampoline competition in Hull in November last year and have now earned themselves a place at the national finals to be held in Birmingham in March.
All three boys have only recently started trampolining at Hillside’s free after-school club, which is led by nursery class teacher and Kirklees Rebound Trampoline Coach, Rebekah Taylor.
The after-school club has been funded by the Big Lottery and is run from Huddersfield Leisure Centre. The club has only been going for 20 weeks and the boys hadn’t had any trampoline lessons before.
Rebekah said: “All three of the boys have made tremendous progress. They all have a natural talent for trampolining and have worked incredibly hard to win the regional final and do so well at the zonal finals in Belfast.
“They have had a really strong work ethic from the outset. I am sure they will do well at the national final in Birmingham.”
Headteacher Nadine Sadler said the boys were a credit to the school and added: “I am so proud of them and the effort, enthusiasm and hard work they have put into learning to trampoline.
“I am also incredibly proud of the hard work and commitment of staff who have given up their own time to ensure these boys were able to take up this amazing opportunity.”
The Belfast trip has been supported by sponsorship from Armitage Bridge-based design firm One17 Design.
