A MAN has appeared in court accused of assaulting his cancerstricken wife twice.

Kirklees magistrates were told the victim is vulnerable as she has undergone major surgery to remove her voice box. She was allegedly attacked twice by her husband of 18 years, Luke Muir, at their Primrose Hill home between February 4 and 11.

Prosecutor Alex Bozman told Kirklees magistrates that police attended the Primrose Grove address due to concerns that she had missed a hospital appointment.

Both the victim and Muir were at the property at the time and she had an injury to her right eye, he said.

Mr Bozman told magistrates that as she can’t speak she communicated with the officers through writing and said that she suffered the injury as a result of the remote control being thrown at her.

She also told police that she had been previously assaulted by Muir when he grabbed her arm, the court was told.

Mr Bozman described the victim as isolated, vulnerable and intimidated by the 40-year-old as she continues to recover from surgery.

Muir, who appeared at the Huddersfield court via a video link from HMP Leeds, denies two charges of assault by beating.

His trial will take place on April 3 and he was granted conditional bail. These conditions at that he resides at an address in Threadneedle Court, Halifax and does not enter Huddersfield or contact his wife.

He must also report to Halifax Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
