Wagner could be in line for Leicester job

- By MEL BOOTH

FORMER Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is a front runner as Leicester City start their search for a new manager.

The Foxes yesterday confirmed the sacking of Claude Puel following their 4-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace.

Wagner left Town last month citing a need to take a break from the rigours of football management.

We have learned from current Town boss Jan Siewert that Wagner has been away on a couple of holidays since parting company by mutual consent from the John Smith’s Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez are said to be being considered by Leicester, even though they are both in work at Celtic and Newcastle United respectively.

Sky Bet, however, have Wagner at the same 8/1 price as Benitez to take over at the King Power Stadium, with Rodgers considered a 10/11 favourite.

Dyche, Wagner and Benitez are next in the betting, but Wagner - who won promotion from the Championship with Town before sealing their firstseason survival in the Premier

League - is the only one of the leading contenders who is currently out of work.

Nigel Pearson is a 10/1 shot to return once again, while Mikel Arteta, second in command to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, is a 14/1 shot.

Should Wagner be the man to take over at Leicester, he could make a dramatic return to the John Smith’s Stadium with the Foxes set to face Town on April 6.
