It’s time to take Jake’s lead on mental illness

-

THERE has been much controversy over Jake Mangle-Wurzel’s sign over Scammonden Bridge about suicides but I say credit to the man (

He is highlighting a problem which does exist, with no apparent action taken about it.

Do the people with mental illness who have suicidal tendencies seek the help they require?

Suicide deaths are increasing and it’s been said that it’s selfish to commit suicide in the first place, leaving loved ones to carry on.

Mental health is little understood as I know from personal experience, both as one who has suffered with it and then worked with people who have had it.

I think Jake is a kind person who means no harm but made an error in the sign’s appearance.

Let this be a wake-up call so that we take action and not sweep mental health issues under the carpet.

We should treat mental illness like a physical illness. Isn’t the brain part of the body? THIS letter is to thank everyone for the marvellous job being done on our flats.

Yes, there have been some minor problems but they have done such a good job.

Many, many thanks to all involved with Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. WHY do people assume they own the road outside their house and keep their car there?

It’s a highway not a car park and if your car lives there the rest of us can’t use that bit of road. We all pay road tax. A domestic Highway Parking Tax could sort it all out. HAS Britain become more violent because our police are armed and carry tasers?

Gun crime and the number of people carrying guns are at record levels, criminals have become more violent and are prepared to battle like-for-like.

Before it was policy for our police force never to carry guns, but it is now an everyday occur- rence. Our quiet, law-abiding society is a fact for most, but the extreme measures taken by our police are alarming to most.

Officers are stressed out, and a lot of their work could be done by civilians. Law officers are not filing clerks.

Policing with all its modern equipment is slowing progress down. While the cat’s away the mice will play and they are having a field day. CAN someone tell me what possesses narcissistic celebrities to spend thousands of pounds on snake skin bags, shoes, coats etc?

I’m not a fan of snakes myself but these poor creatures are hung up and then skinned alive.

It takes more than two days for them to die.

Hundreds of snakes are kept in cages until they meet their fate.
