a panic alarm installed.”

That didn’t deter Landa though, and he turned up at her home in Milnsbridge, making threats like: “You’ll be up in smoke.”

Following the end of their relationship, the victim was at home on October 5, 2016, when Landa punched through her front door.

The panic alarm was activated but Landa also managed to damage her Hyundai before leaving, shattering the rear window.

During an incident on September 15 the same year, Landa threatened to the victim that he would stab her and grabbed her by the hair, punching her several times to the chest.

Magistrates were told about Landa’s vile behaviour towards another woman who allowed him to briefly stay at her Linthwaite home and helped him with chores including the washing.

But he began bothering her with messages and she told him to stop contacting her.

Then in the early hours of Sep- tember 16, she was in bed when she heard shouting at the window.

Later that day Landa attended at her home again, said: “I’ll get your legs next” and she dialled 999.

He directed further threats to her boyfriend, Mr Bozman said. He told magistrates: “He came to the address wanting something like a wheelbarrow and said he would kneecap him and attack her daughter.”

There was a road rage incident involving Landa at Wakefield Road in Moldgreen on the same date, when his Nissan tried to cut in front of the victim’s car but he refused to let him do so.

Mr Bozman said: “Subsequently the vehicle drew up alongside his vehicle, he leant out of the car with a metal bar and hit the vehicle, causing the windscreen to crack.”

Landa had denied four charges of criminal damage, using threatening behaviour, harassment, assault and sending a grossly offensive, indecent, obscene or menacing message via a public communication network.

But he was convicted of all of the offences following two trials for which he failed to show up, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on both occasions.

Mr Bozman said: “He was in Scotland but decided to come forward to police and finalise the matters.”

Magistrates were told that Landa, now living at Durham Square in Edinburgh, had a history of misusing drink and drugs, and gambling.

The relationship between him and his ex-partner was volatile and he had an ‘emotional breakdown’ but has not been in trouble since 2016.

Magistrates sentenced Landa to 22 weeks in prison, suspended for a year.

He must complete 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £200 court costs plus £115 victim surcharge.
