Going: Standard to slow

D raw: No data availiable for the All-Weather track SPRING-LIKE conditions greeted Huddersfield Falcons last Sunday for the second round of their club championship series.

Thurlstone Quarry just over the South Yorkshire border was the venue of choice which, as the name suggests, has some pretty formidable rock steps and climbs for the riders to contend with.

On the Championship course Will Tolson stood head and shoulders above everyone else playing with the ten-section course and turning in a winning total of just six marks lost.

Tolson was using the event to break in a new bike which clearly caused him no harm as he breezed through the difficult rocky hazards.

Section eight caused real problems for most, starting with a tricky turn, it then led on to a difficult climb over rock slabs that despite the dry conditions offered little grip for anything but a committed attempt.

Tolson showed true class here with a total of two, runner up Matt Jackson totalled eight and the normally dependable Andrew Jackson was all at sea with a total of 12.

Other than the leading two only Ben Robinson and Martin Beardsell managed a feet-up attempt.

Not to be out done, on the Clubman A course Tony Heath was equally as dominant turning in a winning total of seven finishing well clear of his chasing rivals.

Heath was steady all day, his total built up of single figure losses, sec- tion nine being where he made his biggest gains.

Ridden as a hard course option Heath lost a miserly one mark, in contrast runner-up Curtis Johnson totalled eight and third placed Matt Treweek was even further off the pace with a total of 11. Ian Blackburn was the only other rider to master this with a two mark total.

Winning low scores being very much the order of the day the lowest of all came on the Clubman B route with Mark Hawkins piloting his Montesa around for just a single mark loss, which went on section six on his first lap.

Hawkins like Tolson and Heath was in a class of his own leading home a trio of Wilsons – Johnny, Chris and Brandon in that order.

Section seven was the major mark taker, in the corner of the quarry in the shadow of a pretty substantial rock face it had greasy rocks and turns for the riders to contend with.

Hawkins was feet-up on every lap, runner up Johnny Wilson started with a feet-up ride but then went on to total six, the only other feet-up ride seen here was from Richard Dodson.
