We’ll fight for our Premier League lives

ning,” Siewert said. “I know that it won’t be easy, but we’ll keep on fighting.

“Let me calculate. Ten more games.

“There’s still a chance.”

Mounie’s last-gasp winner was no more than Siewert’s revamped side deserved.

The former Borussia Dortmund reserve-team coach made eight changes, handing Karlan Grant and Demeaco Duhaney their full Premier League debuts, and Town responded with an energetic display that stifled Wolves.

“I’m so proud, so proud to be part of the Huddersfield family and the players, the staff, everyone, they deserve it so much,” Siewert said.

“You couldn’t believe how much we have suffered these last few weeks, with the unlucky moments.

“But the fight comes first in the game and they really showed it. I really enjoyed celebrating after the game.”

The Terriers clinched their third league win of the season, but Siewert has quickly turned his attentions to Saturday’s game at Brighton, who were beaten 2-1 at Leicester and haven’t won in six top-flight outings.

Asked if he would celebrate, the German added: “Maybe a bit, maybe just one beer. Maybe two.

“On Saturday there is a game and there’s still something possible, so we have to keep on working.

“I think it started in the dressing room right after the Newcastle game,” added Siewert, who played Jon Gorenc Stankovic as a defensive midfield player and restored Alex Pritchard at No10.

“I realised I was so disappointed and they were also so disappointed. At the end, it is about giving 100 per cent effort for the club.

“I felt disappointed after the first four games but I am so proud now.

“I know what my players, my staff and the club deserves and we showed a different face, we took it onto the pitch.”

Siewert said it was a changed team but the same gameplan. He explained: “We stayed in our shape and had the same formation as always, but I knew I needed fresh legs because the Newcastle game was mentally heavy and physically heavy.

“To be fair, I believe in the squad.

“I have done right from the beginning. I knew it would take time but, after four weeks, I knew the characters better and I brought them into the positions which are okay for them.”

And on the fans, he added: “They were fantastic and gave us that energy.”
