Housing plan is bulldozed through without protest

not tried, they have not even uttered any protest.

If they can’t defend local democracy there is no point them being in office.

Probably, the greatest evidence of incompetence relates to planning and the implied benefits for our declining communities.

How councillors equate the crazy concept of “affordable homes” with the significant percentage of folk on limited pay, zero-hour contracts, and benefits, defeats me. That central government promises financial support for the “poor North”, plus local politicians constantly referring to the economic imbalance of our region, surely tells the same tale.

However, I recall a past Kirklees Council leader stating that approving significant house building meant more council tax, so is this the motive for 31,000 more houses?

The tragedy is that those that created the current mess are somehow still in charge of sorting it out. spective in 1994. David was awarded the MBE for services to art in 2015 and sadly died in March 2016. So many expressed their disappointment that once again, our council failed to properly publicise an event.

The exhibition is co-curated by Huddersfield artist Maxwell Doig and Messum’s, London, until June.

David, despite long spells as a visiting lecturer, artist and professor in both Australia and America was “a Huddersfield lad” who never lost his love for our town and its surroundings.

While he was an artist of international repute he was also a keen supporter and mentor of artists starting out including Tom Burtonwood, James Healy, Martin Smith and Tomas Watson.

Business people do not expect the council to do everything for them only provide the opportunities. Art plays an important role in attracting visitors and therefore customers to any town.

What a pity that once again this council lost yet another opportunity to revitalise our town.
