Brewery plan is safe bet
FORMER BANK WILL BECOME LATEST ADDITION TO BEER COMPANY’S EMPIRE
HUDDERSFIELD’S world-renowned Magic Rock brewery is set to expand into Holmfirth later this year when it takes over a vacant bank.
The company, which started out in Oakes and now has purpose-built premises near Birkby, says it hopes to create two full-time jobs and 10 parttime jobs.
It has applied to Kirklees Council for change of use permission to alter 28 Victoria Street, a Grade II listed building that is situated within the Holmfirth Conservation area.
The building covers three floor levels including a basement and was last occupied by HSBC bank, which closed in January, 2017.
Proposed opening hours would initially be: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 4pm-10pm; Friday: 1pm-11pm; Saturday: 12pm-11pm Sunday: 12pm-9pm.
The company says the new premises would attract a wide range of people to the area and boost the Holmfirth economy.
The existing bank safe is to be retained and is to be used as a beer cellar with independent wall lining panels and a new access door installed behind the main safe door which is to be pegged open.
It is initially proposed that the firstfloor area will be used as a private function room as it has its own toilet facilities and bar area.
Since it was established in May 2011, Magic Rock Brewing Co Ltd has won a global reputation for the excellence of its craft beers.
A survey through RateBeer.com listed Magic Rock as being the 44th Best Brewer in the World and the fifth in England. And their tap room close to Huddersfield town centre has also been listed in the best places for beer in England and West Yorkshire.
