YM Reserves out of Trophy but Linthwaite ease through

THE West Riding County Challenge Trophy quarter-final game between Division Four leaders Huddersfie­ld YM Reserves and Malt Shovel from Selby ended in a 6-1 home defeat to the YM.

However, the Division 1 leaders Linthwaite easily beat Leeds City OB 6-2 with goals from Ashmore, Beaumont, Wadsworth, Woodruff and a brace from Boafo.

Berry Brow moved up to second beating local rivals Newsome 6-2 with goals from Docherty, Oakes (2) and a hat-trick from substitute Askin. Newsome’s goals came in each half from Stuart and Rufus.

Holmbridge missed out on second spot after drawing at home 1-1 with neighbours Hepworth.

Division 2 leaders Scholes slipped to a rare defeat losing 4-1 away at Dalton Dynamos. Netherton stayed in second spot beating Fothergill & Whittles 2-1. Lee scored for Fothergill­s before goals from Edwards and Mattimoe sealed the Netherton win.

Golcar remain rooted to the bottom of Division 3 losing heavily at home to Cumberwort­h 7-0 whose goals came from Blackburn, Moore, Lund (2), Smith, Kilner and Gower. Junction narrowly beat Scissett 3-2 to stay top.

Moorside moved clear of the relegation zone beating Brook Motors 6-0 with goals from Clegg, Howarth and super subs Renwick and hat-trick hero Evans.

The race for promotion from Division 4 is very tight with the top four separated by only five points.

Deighton moved in to second on goal difference with a 5-2 win over fourthplac­e Sporting CAV with goals from Ashfield, Campbell, John, McLachlan and Webster. The Reaks brothers scored the consolatio­n goals for CAV.

Cartworth Moor stay bottom losing 4-2 to Kirkburton who moved up to fifth. Tom Hanson scored both for the Moor, while Troy Toulcher, Tom Willans and Matt Willans (2) scored for the Burton.

In the Reserve Divisions, Newsome need a point to retain the Division 1 title following their 1-1 draw away at Shelley.

In Division 2 the top two teams Fothergill & Whittles and AFC Dalton had no games but both stay tied on points and only goal difference can split the two.

Deighton reserves went seven points clear at the top of Division 3 after thumping Scissett 9-1 with goals from Allison, Hirst, Matthews, Simpson, Njie and four from Price. Scissett’s consolatio­n was scored by Bromley.

Britannia Sports A narrowly beat Grange Moor Saints 4-3 away to complete their fixtures and stay top of Division 4.

Hepworth United, who are second beat Cartworth Moor 11-1 and now need to win all their games to draw level with them.
