the second try their performance deserved as Joe Wardle went over from close range.

Gaskell’s conversion put them eight points ahead with 15 minutes to go and seal a famous win.

Elsewherem St Helens maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they eased to a comfortable 26-0 victory over London Broncos to return to the top of the Super League table.

Saints are now the only club left with a 100 per cent start to the 2019 campaign following Castleford’s defeat by Warrington on Thursday night, with Justin Holbrook’s side edging two points clear of the Tigers and

Saints claimed five tries through Dom Peyroux, Theo Fages, Regan Grace, Kevin Naiqama and Lachlan Coote, who also kicked three goals.

Hull’s revival continued as they put beleaguered Leeds to the sword 34-10 to earn their first victory at the KCOM Stadium since last June.

The Black and Whites have seen their form make a U-turn in recent weeks, picking up away wins against Wigan and Huddersfield to bring an end to their 13-game losing run in Super League. HUDDERSFIELD’S Marcus Ellis is out of the YONEX All England Open.

The 29-year-old, who won bronze in the men’s doubles at the 2016 Rio Olympics, flew into the second round at badminton’s oldest tournament but came up against stubborn resistance on day two, losing out to Malaysian pair Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie in the mixed doubles.

Ellis and partner Lauren Smith never really got going at Arena Birmingham despite vociferous home support, losing out 21-15 26-24.

Despite the defeat, Ellis says British badminton is in good shape.

“It is quite promising and you’ve obviously got a range of ages which is a really good thing as well because it’s not just the older players,” said Ellis.

“There’s some 20, 21-year-olds stepping up to the plate and performing on the world stage and I think to be doing that at that age is promising for the future.

“We are really disappointed but as far as the mixed goes in

England it’s always been a strong discipline for us, I don’t know why, there’s no explanation for it.”
