well in the Elite Development group at PPG Canalside? “He has a good technique and good vision,” said Siewert of Daly, who joined Town’s Academy from Everton as an Under-15 player and starred for the nation’s Under-17 team in last summer’s European Championships.

“He is young and he is hungry. That’s what I like.

“I know that he still needs a bit of time because, physically, he had an injury which wasn’t good for him, but I like his style of play.

“So he can definitely be an option once more for the squad.”

Does that mean Daly could feature for a debut immediately against Bournemouth at the John Smith’s Stadium today?

“I think it’s possible he could get minutes over the upcoming games,” reflected Siewert.

“But, like all the young players – like Karlan Grant and Demeaco Duhaney – I have to make sure that when I play them they are ready for it.

“This is an important thing for young players.”

Siewert has dealt with the progress of plenty of young players in his career in Germany and his time at Borussia Dortmund II.

Daly, even at his age, was a regular in Mark Hudson’s Under-23 side last season and is now pushing for senior recognition as an a t t a c k- m i n d e d player in central midfield or at No10.

“It depends on the moment and on the situation,” answered the head coach, when asked what would be an ideal time for Daly to make his debut.

“He is training well but he is physically not that ready to start, so I will find a solution when he is on the pitch.”

Siewert has indicated the door is open to Academy players to maybe get games before the end of the Premier League season.

“It depends on the quality, because I have to make sporting decisions and this is how I pick my squad,” he explained.

“With Demeaco, although he got injured, I was sure that he could play - and I think he surprised us all with how well he did.

“No-one had barely heard of him before, but I was sure that he could perform because of sporting reasons.

“First of all, of course, I have to think of how we can win games.

“And then it’s about a player’s quality.

“If I trust a young player, then I trust a young player.

“I really like the way Huddersfield Town is working in the academy, and I really like that someone like Demeaco proved he can be part of our squad.

“We will have a look at the young players.

“If they show it in training and their level at the moment, then I will make my decisions about who will play.”
