Back-to-back wins the target for Emley

- By MARTIN EASTWOOD

AFC Emley look for a second successive home win today when they entertain Armthorpe Welfare at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground (3pm), following last week’s dramatic late win over Winterton Rangers.

Shane Hamilton’s injury-time winner gave Emley all three points last week and they will look to make it a double after beating the Doncaster-based side 2-1 on the opening day of the season.

Armthorpe, like Emley earlier in the season, hit a dreadful run of form that saw them plummet down the table. Between October and January they suffered 12 straight defeats and took some hammerings, but then, also like Emley, they found some form, winning three straight, drawing two and only losing once before a 3-2 defeat to previously bottom side Bolsover last week.

Both teams will want the points to ease any possible relegation fears, although the Pewits are currently 13 points above the relegation places, but won’t take anything for granted.

Last week’s win over fifth-placed Winterton was Emley’s first in four games, although they have played two of the league’s top sides – Nostell and Hallam – in that period.

A win would be crucial then to any lingering relegation fears for Emley as they look to try and get back into the top half of the Northern Counties East League Division 1 table.
