THE career of an aspiring RAF officer is in tatters after he was caught drink-driving.

Jake Morley’s car was seen drifting about in the road in the early hours of March 1.

He was pulled over by police who found that he was two-and-a-half times over the legal limit.

The 21-year-old was recently accepted into the RAF but is now set to lose his role because of the court proceedings against him.

He pleaded guilty to driving while over the prescribed limit when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

Vanessa Jones, prosecuting, said that police stopped his Mini One shortly before 2.30am.

This was because he was drifting a little in the road as he drove along Spaines Road in Birkby.

Morley fully co-operated with the officers and was arrested following a positive roadside breath test.

Further police station samples showed that he had 88 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrames.

Magistrates were told that Morley, of Huddersfield Road in Thongsbridge, had no previous convictions. Aubrey Sampson, mitigating, explained that his client had been at the gym and not eaten all day.

After finishing his work-out he went out with friends for a few drinks and then drove home.

Mr Sampson said to magistrates: “This will have a potential effect on his future life.

“He applied to join the RAF and has been accepted as an officer. It’s unlikely now that he will be in a position to take that offer.

“Having represented a lot of people over my years of practising the law I can tell you with surety that it’s highly unlikely that this defendant will ever commit an offence again.

“This is way out of his comfort zone. Mum is very proud of her son but very disappointed as to what he’s done.

“This young man has made a mistake and I sincerely believe that he will not make a mistake again.”

Magistrates banned Morley from driving for 20 months.

He was fined £195 and will have to pay £85 court costs plus £30 victim surcharge.
