Plans remove our Green Belt and increase traffic

-

I remember going to look at that with my mum, dad and sister in the car. I got a piece of fibreglass from there but I can’t remember what I did with it now I’m 57 and I still have the Examiner cut out story. THE outrageous behaviour by Kirklees Labour councillors to shut down discussion and force through the contentious Local Plan and to then immediately approve the building of 252 homes on Green Belt land in Fixby shows the utter contempt that councillors and local planning officials have, not only for the views of local people but also for common sense.

Many people believe various councils have ruined Huddersfield town centre over a number of years, and yet this council is now also setting about destroying Green Belt land for future generations when brownfield sites are still available, and the council’s own test that building on Green Belt land can only be undertaken ‘in exceptional’ circumstances has clearly not been met.

Taking into account plans by Kirklees and Calderdale Councils, over 2,500 homes are scheduled to be built in or around the Fixby area. That is an extra 5,000 vehicles at least. Consider that - 5,000 additional vehicles converging on Ainley Top and Bradley Bar rounda- bouts, Bradford Road, Halifax Road, Leeds Road and all access points on and off the M62. This is simply not sustainable. It beggars belief that councillors cannot see this and in the minds of many it will call into question their motives and integrity.

Huddersfield people are not so easily fooled as the council seem to be and they know that such a volume of traffic cannot be supported.

Local people also know where accountability will lie when someone is unable to receive emergency medical treatment at HRI or Calderdale hospital A&E facilities because ambulances cannot get through due to congestion.

The councillors who passed this planning application can have no complaints if local people hold them personally liable for their decisions.

Many believe that through this decision, these councillors have clearly failed to adhere to the expected principles of public life and have, by their actions, put local people at risk. Shameful. IN June 2016 the nation voted to leave the EU. Now, we see the betrayal of our democracy by those elected to serve. Can any vote, in any shape or form, ever be trusted again?

Our politicians, will never be trusted by the British people; for, despite all the promises from June 2016 until today, they have betrayed us all. YOUR correspondent Linfit Joe (Examiner, March 15) suggests, at worst, unruly families (not Ofsted or governors) can run schools and determine results.

Years back, one school (where I worked) rewarded reluctant pupils with a Friday morning movie, providing the preceding four days had been free of antiacademic incidents.

This may seem outrageous – but how many staff would tap away endless dull hours at employers’ keyboards for no reward? As they grow older, some disruptive pupils may see school life very differently.
