Sowerby at the double as Town Ladies ease to win over United
TOWN SHEFFIELD UTD 4 0
HUDDERSFIELD Town Ladies sealed a fine 4-0 home win over Sheffield United Ladies Second.
It was the hosts who began the game brighter and they should have been 2-0 up within the opening five minutes.
First, Kate Mallin was set through on goal with little over a minute played but, instead of shooting from the edge of the six-yard box, she decided to play it square for Lucy Sowerby who fired over.
Moments later, Mallin had another great opportunity as she found herself one-on-one with the keeper, only to place her lob just wide of the far post.
Town opened the scoring on the quarter-hour mark.
Brilliant work from Millie Turner down the right got the Terriers in behind the United defence and the cross ricocheted off the unfortunate keeper onto her defender and into the back of the net.
And it was two moments later. More good play from the hosts lead to the ball finding its way to Katie Nutter in space on the edge of the area and Town’s number seven fired the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
They went 3-0 up on the stroke of half-time.
Yet again, Mallin burst past her marker down the right flank and picked her head up to find Sowerby, who smashed the ball into the roof of net for her second of the game.
A lofted pass found Ella Harris on the left and the left-back span beyond her marker smartly before floating a delightful ball to find Sowerby who placed the ball beyond the despairing goalkeeper.
This Sunday the first team return to league action when they entertain Stoke City Ladies, 2pm kick-off.
