Three ‘serious’ after smash

AIR AMBULANCE CALLED OUT AFTER FIVE-VEHICLE CRASH

THREE people are confirmed to have been injured in the crash in New Mill Road, Brockholes, yesterday morning.

A man was flown to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance, while two women were taken to LGI and HRI by ambulance.

West Yorkshire Police said: “Police fire and ambulance services were called to New Mill Road, Brockholes at about 8.40am this morning to reports of a multi vehicle collision.

“The incident involved four cars and a van which was stationary at the time. lifted to Leeds General infirmary and two other female casualties were also taken to hospital for treatment by road.

“All three persons had serious but not life threatenin­g injuries.”

The road was closed during the incident and enquiries into what took place are ongoing.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service said three ambulances attended.

New Mill Road was closed at around 9am and remained closed for several hours.

A witness who works at a nearby building supplies merchants said he was doing some offloading when he heard what a car ‘going fast, about 70-80mph’.

He said: “It zipped past, then I heard a massive bang and saw four cars crushed.”

He said he saw a black Skoda with an older man inside, who appeared to be trapped. He said there was a woman in a silver car in her 60s who wasn’t very responsive. The air ambulance landed on the bowling green.

A woman in a red Kia involved in the crash got straight out.

He said people from the garage were coming over to see if the two injured people were still conscious.

He said he saw smoke coming out of one of the cars. He thinks a black Alfa Romeo which was also involved had been parked.

“It was so loud, I thought it was a wagon that had fallen over.”

Another man said he had seen footage of a black car coming from Honley ‘at a rate of knots’.

A witness at a nearby petrol station said he saw a car speed past at ‘80mph’ before the crash.

He said: “I said: ‘That car has gone past really fast.’”

The woman worker from the petrol station said she saw people trapped in their cars but several people were surroundin­g the vehicles trying to help.

She said she went into the road to redirect traffic away from the scene.

Meanwhile, there was what locals also claimed to have been a high-speed crash in Honley on Wednesday night, involving up to six vehicles.

The crash happened

5.53pm on Meltham Road.

Photograph­s showed several damaged vehicles including a white Audi.

It is thought three people needed hospital treatment though no-one was seriously hurt.
