‘We have no one to blame but ourselves’

JORDAN Turner says Huddersfie­ld Giants have nobody else but themselves to blame for their poor start to the Super League season.

And the centre admits the Claret and Gold can’t keep on blaming their injury crisis for the fact they sit bottom of the table.

Heading into tonight’s clash with Hull KR at the John Smith’s Stadium, Simon Woolford’s men have won just one of their opening six matches.

They have been depleted in several of those games, and the head coach can only name 18 fit players in the squad for tonight’s match as the off-field injury problems continue.

But Turner, who has played every game so far this season, says they can’t look to the missing players as a reason for the poor start to the campaign.

He said: “The injuries aren’t difficult unless you make them so, which we are doing at the moment.

“It is sort of an excuse at the minute.

“The lads who are taking to the field are more of a concern than the injuries this season.

“We have been so close to getting some good results, yet so far.

“Against Warrington and St Helens - supposedly the two best teams in the competitio­n at the moment – we have gone toe-to-toe with them and should have been leading at halftime against both of those sides.

“But little things - lapses of concentrat­ion and ill-discipline - are hurting us.

“Big teams don’t slip up and when we do they have punished us at times. It is all our own doing.”
