Chance would be fine thing for Siewert!

-

Steve Mounie has only managed two goals this season while fellow forward Laurent Depoitre is still to find the back of the net.

Part of the reason Karlan Grant’s early performances have received such adulation from Terriers fans is because they are crying out for someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.

But if you delve into the statistics from this season, you find that Huddersfield Town’s big problem might not be finishing chances - it is creating them in the first place.

Everyone knows the Terriers have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League this campaign (18), but more surprising is that they have also missed the fewest number of big chances (also 18), according to the Premier League’s stats .

By way of comparison, Town’s fellow relegations strugglers Fulham and Cardiff have missed 35 and 25 respectively, while converting 29 and 27 goals each.

Somewhat ominously for the rest of the division, top of both tables is Manchester City, who have scored 79 goals and missed another 58 big chances.

So Town have scored the fewest but also missed the fewest, meaning their problem lies more in creating chances than finishing them. Jan Siewert said as much after the 2-0 loss to Bournemouth at the John Smith’s Stadium when Town had plenty of possession in the visitor’s half but lacked the quality to break through.
