There is now a whole host of spectacular apps taking advantage of the Pencil – from Procreate for painting, to

Notability for hand-written notes. And many of the best general purpose apps are also adding support for the Pencil to bring new features like annotation and mark-up.

Like the entry-level iPad with the 9.7in screen, the Air and the Mini support only the first-generation Apple Pencil, not the new one, which still only works with the iPad Pro. The Air also features the Smart Connector, which means support for the Smart Keyboard cover, which is available at £149.

As the pro features included suggest, the Air and the Mini sit between the iPad and the iPad Pro in the iPad range, which now features five models.

Top of the line sits the iPad Pro 12.9in and its smaller sibling with an 11in screen. They start at £769 and can cost anything up to £1,869 when the top spec is selected. The second generation Apple Pencil costs £119.

The new iPad Air starts at £479 for a model with 64GB of storage, and goes up to £749 for 256GB and added mobile connectivity.

The new Mini starts at £399 for a model with 64GB of storage, and goes up to £669 for 256GB and added mobile connectivity. Meanwhile the entry-level 9.7in iPad still starts at £319 for a 32GB model, rising to 539 for 128GB of storage and mobile connectivity. The first generation Apple Pencil costs £89. Access for £2.29 a month or £19.99 a year, you get much more – live telemetry from the cars as they race, driver tracking maps, and access to team radio and driver messages.

Meanwhile, the F1 TV app provides access to race highlights for subscribers, and an archive of some of the best racing from years gone by. A must-have package for F1 fans.

Y NOT LOOK TO THE FUTURE?

TESLA moved into phase two of its bid to make all-electric cars more affordable this week, with the launch of its latest less-expensive model – the Model Y.

Following on from the Model 3, which was released two years ago, the Model Y features much of the same spec with a slightly larger body – you could call it Tesla’s more affordable SUV.

First up next year will be the long-range Model Y, which will be able to travel 300 miles between charges and cost around £35,000.

A cheaper “standard” model with a shorter range of 230 miles will be released later and cost somewhere in the region of £29,000.

Tesla’s Model X – the top-of-theline SUV – starts around £80,000.
