Well worth the wait for Town
For the last manager to have that, you have to go back to the Keith Alexander era.
AS you would expect, they’ve earned God-like status among the fans. It’s not just the results, it’s that connection they’ve managed to establish with the fans, with crowds going through the roof.
There’s obvious disappointment about them leaving and the way it’s happened is a little bizarre, with them initially turning Huddersfield down and then being linked with Sheffield Wednesday.
But this day was always going to come. In fact, I’m pleasantly surprised they’ve stayed as long as they have as they’ve had lots of offers over the last few years. team for sticking to their guns and doggedly going after their number one target; we would, after all, be bemoaning it if they had had to settle for a more underwhelming appointment.

■What can Town fans expect from them in terms of playing style? Do they have a preferred system or are they adaptable?
THEY’RE adaptable. They’ve been tarred with the long-ball brush unfairly.
They were direct in their first season at the club in the National League and in the first season back in the Football League, but it worked a treat.
After they lost in the play-offs in 2017/18, they realised they needed to evolve and they played much better football last season than they were given credit for. Town and Concord Rangers, before taking over at Concord in the Essex Senior League in 2007.
He guided them through three promotions up to National League South before he move to Braintree, who he took to the National League play-offs.
That’s when he moved to Lincoln, who were then in the National League.
Now, he – and brother Nicky who has been with him throughout his managerial career – has to show he can do it in the Championship.
Hopefully, the Cowleys’ appointment can have a galvanising effect and bring together the club, the players, the community and the fans as they look to rally around their new manager.
■PUNDIT Danny Murphy has offered up his view on Huddersfield Town‘s decision to install Danny Cowley as their new manager.
“What the Cowley brothers have done is exceptional and they deserve all the plaudits in the world,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
“But this is a new challenge at Huddersfield and in the Championship.
“They are in freefall. It sounds like they turned Huddersfield down initially because they wanted the Sheffield Wednesday job.
“There is only so much money where they were at Lincoln.
“The Sheffield Wednesday job would have been better than Huddersfield.
“Garry Monk certainly has the better job.”
Cowley’s first game in charge of Town is at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday.
