Effing and blinding to fill up the charity swear box
A YOUTH charity is hoping people swear a lot in September.
For the Huddersfieldbased Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust is making this month Spectacular September with a range of fundraisers – including a fine box for people who swear.
Other events lined up include a Superhero and Princess Sprint in Beaumont Park for youngsters dressed in superhero or princess outfits and the chance to buy spectacular gateaux with a donation for each one going to the charity.
Rounding off the month’s activities will be superhero sheep racing.
The charity’s manager Pam Thornes said: “We are hoping it will be a sweartastic September for us – if that’s really a word! Every little really helps the charity so if people let go then we’ll raise a lot. We ask people to have swear boxes at work and at home.
“We’ve lined up several events to make it a super Spectacular September in tribute to all the real life heroes we meet in the fight against cancer in young people – from the young people themselves to the surgeons who are saving their lives.”
The children’s Superhero and Princess Sprint will be at Beaumont Park on Sunday, September 15, at 10am and the whole family can join the run for just a tenner. They’ll receive goody bags and certificates, and medals will be presented to youngsters who have raised more than £10.
The Spectacular Superhero Sheep Racing will be on Friday, September 27, at Huddersfield Irish Centre and features the LCYCT flock ready to race – and you can be the jockey.
Tickets are £10 per person or £15 for two with children aged from 6 to 12 just £3. The tickets include a hot beef supper and the event runs from 7pm to 11pm.
The Spectacular Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust cakes cost £14 and are made by well renowned Meltham cakemakers Nicola’s Gateaux. Order from Nicola’s on 01484 850408.
