Funeral date for teen who sparked cop hunt
Horse-drawn carriage will lead cortege to cemetery
THE funeral service for a teenager whose disappearance sparked a major police search will be held next Thursday.
Kamau McCallum-James, 18, of Fartown, was last seen on August 21 with his family saying they had no idea why the popular university-bound teenager had gone missing.
Police launched a major search around the Red Doles Lane area near his home while underwater teams also scoured the canal in the Colnebridge area.
Kamau loved to walk along the canal in and around the Cooper Bridge area taking photographs.
Detectives became increasingly concerned and held a press conference on the morning of Friday, August 30 – but his body was found just a short time later.
The circumstances of his death will be investigated by the coroner and an inquest will be held later.
A horse-led cortege will leave Kamau’s home for a celebration of his life to be held at the Church of God of Prophecy, Stile Common Road, Newsome, at 11am. This will be followed by interment at Hey Lane Cemetery, near Castle Hill.
Kamau attended Dalton Junior and Infant School, Moor End Academy and Huddersfield New College.
He had won a place to study at Teesside University after successfully completing A-levels at New College.
His father Phil James told the Examiner: “Next week will be a celebration of his life.”
More than £600 has been raised as part of a £10,000 bid by his family and friends to do positive things in his name and remember his life.
