Results to come from hard work and humility

- By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC

TOWN have just one point from their first six games of the season, but Danny Cowley will not be setting a particular points target for his players to hit over the coming games.

That’s because he and his assistant and brother Nicky Cowley believe results are a necessary outcome from doing the hard work in the right places.

Speaking ahead of his first game as Terriers boss - which will come against Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow lunchtime - Cowley said:

“Football seems to create these moments.

“For Nicky and I to manage our first game in the Championship is something we’re unbelievably proud of, but we haven’t come this far to only come this far and we see this as the next step in the journey.

“We want to find a way to win football matches. There’s no doubt this is the biggest challenge of my life but I’m excited.

“We’re always process-driven, never outcome-orientated.

“We know the rule is that if we can start to get the process right then the outcomes start to take care of themselves, so that is always where our focus lies.

“We can all put goals and objectives down but ultimately you have to build the processes first and that is where our focus is. We want to play with an energy and an intensity that we believe is aligned with this football club.

“It’s a working class club and Nicky and I come from a working class family and we are very proud of that and know what that means and we know the qualities you need to live in that world, so we’re going to try to find a way of being successful.”

Asked whether he feels there is a place for a working class club in the upper echelons of the game, potentially even the Premier League, he said: “Well, you would like to think so!

“I look at the Premier League and it’s obviously the greatest competition in world football but I do think it would benefit from having some working class values and maybe a few working class people around it just to give it a little bit of humility from time to time.”
