TWO men caught on a suspected stolen motorbike were in possession of Class A drugs.

Police pulled over the Kawasaki being driven by Dean Hall at 8.30pm on August 23.

His friend, Paul Hinchliff, was a passenger and the officers stopped them on Dalton Bank Road, in Dalton.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, told Kirklees magistrates: “When they carried out checks at the roadside, they became aware that Hall was subject to a disqualification until September 6 next year.

“As a consequence, he was not insured.

“Police had some concern that the bike might be stolen and carried out a search of both parties.”

Hinchliff, 40, was searched and four wraps of heroin and two wraps of crack cocaine were found on him.

He pleaded guilty to two charges of possession of a controlled drug.

Hall, of Spruce Drive Mews, in Netherton, had MDMA (Ecstasy) in his possession.

The 45-year-old admitted having this, as well as driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Hinchliff, of Huddersfield Road, in Holmfirth, said he’d been paid the previous day and that’s why he had the drugs on him.

Sonia Kidd, mitigating, said: “They decided they were going to buy some drugs.

“Mr Hinchliff had been paid and wanted to buy some drugs, and Mr Hall foolishly took the decision to take the bike, which had been locked away in the shed, to make that purchase.”

Hall was jailed for 16 weeks and banned from driving for 20 months.

He will have to pay £122 victim surcharge upon his release.

Hinchliff was sentenced to a community order with 10 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his offending behaviour.

He will have to pay a £90 victim surcharge. The drugs seized from both men will be forfeited and destroyed.
