DOZENS of criminals are dealt with by magistrate­s at Kirklees every day.

Magistrate­s have the powers to jail defendants for up to six months for one offence or 12 months in total for a number of offences. They can also hand down fines of up to £5,000.

All magistrate­s are unpaid volunteers and they only receive expenses for the work they do.

With more serious offences they will send a defendant to Crown Court for sentencing.

Here are the latest cases from the courts. she did not consent and you did not reasonably believe that she was consenting, in Mirfield, on June 9, 2018. Community order made for an unpaid work requiremen­t for 120 hours of unpaid work to be completed within the next 12 months. Ordered to pay £85 surcharge and £620 costs.

■Bela Pompa , 35, of Sufton Street, Birkby, Huddersife­ld. Possession of drugs on November 15, 2018. Community order made for an unpaid work requiremen­t of up to 120 hours of unpaid work to be completed within the next 12 months. Ordered to pay £85 surcharge. Drugs to be forfeited and destroyed. Street, Liversedge. Damaged a window to the value of £160. Discharged conditiona­lly for 12 months and ordered to pay £160 compensati­on.

■Elliot Hallas, 29, of Bank Foot Street, Batley. Failed to provide a specimen of breath/blood for analysis when suspected of having committed an offence on July 26. Fined £450, ordered to pay a £45 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for three years.

■Adrian Gordon Howie, 30, of Waltons Heights, Hightown, Liversedge. Driving while disqualifi­ed and driving without insurance on namely Queen Street on July 19. Community order made for unpaid work requiremen­t to carry out 100 hours within the next 12 months, ordered to pay a £90 surcharge, £85 costs and driving licence endorsed with six points.

■Michael Anthony Ramsbottom, 75, of Willwood Avenue, Oakes, Huddersfie­ld. Drink driving on Willwood Avenue on July 28. Fined £240, ordered to pay a £32 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 17 months.

■Adam Riding, 28, of Greenlea Court, Dalton, Huddersfie­ld. Drink driving on namely Lister Street, Moldgreen Road on July 28. Community order made for unpaid work requiremen­t to carry out 50 hours within the next 12 months, ordered to pay a £90 surcharge, £80 costs and banned from driving for 23 months.

■Caroline Anne Sanderson, 51, of Cross Green Road, Dalton, Huddersfie­ld. Drunk and disorderly behaviour in a public place, namely Huddersfie­ld Methodist Mission. Fined £40, ordered to pay a £32 surcharge and £70 costs.

■Darren Michael Fox, 38, of Mill View, Huddersfie­ld. Drink driving on namely Whitley Street, Milnsbridg­e on April 21. Fined

£120, ordered to pay a £32 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 18 months.

■Eamon O’Leary, 44, of Healds Avenue, Littletown, Liversedge. Stole chocolates worth £19.75 belonging to Wilkinsons on July

23. Fined £440, ordered to pay a £44 surcharge and £85 costs.

■Jack Lonergan, 26, of Hopton Avenue, Mirfield. Damaged the rear passenger window of a marked police vehicle at Hopton Avenue, Upper Hopton, Mirfield, on May 11, committed whilst subject to a suspended sentence for assault on January 17, damaged a window to the value of £100 at Ripon Road, Dewsbury, on May 18 and failed to surrender to custody on July 26. Suspended sentence implemente­d, jailed for five months concurrent and ordered to pay £200 compensati­on.

■Matthew Hopkins, 47, of Edgerton Road, Huddersfie­ld. Speeding on namely A583 Preston New Road near Lomond Avenue, Blackpool, on September 12, 2018. Fined £100, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge, £85 costs and driving licence endorsed with three points.

■Malcolm Nicholson, 51, of Royd Street, Hilltop, Slaithwait­e. Speeding on namely A62 Manchester Road, on January 12. Fined £100, ordered to pay a £30 surcharge, £85 costs and driving licence endorsed with three points.

■Carl Andrew Eaton, 51, of Chiltern Avenue, Oakes. Community order of June 27 varied to allow for curfew hours to be changed to start at 9.30pm on August 23.

■James John, 50, of Wakefield Road, Waterloo. Drink-driving on Wakefieid Road, Waterloo, on July 20. Fined £300, ordered to pay £32 surcharge, £85 costs and banned from driving for 20 months.

■Wayne Carter, 36, of Queen Street, Greetland, Halifax. Entered a train with the purpose of travelling without a valid ticket, in Brighouse, on February 22. Fined £220. Ordered to pay £5.40 compensati­on, £30 surcharge and £150 costs.

■Alex Forsyth, 19, of Thornhill Road, Brighouse. Entered a train with the purpose of travelling without a valid ticket, in Huddersfie­ld, on March 15. Fined £220. Ordered to pay £14.20 compensati­on, a £30 surcharge and £150 costs.

■Kuram Mahmood, 31, of Hazel Close, Dewsbury. Entered a train with the purpose of travelling without a valid ticket, in Halifax, on February 28. Fined £220. Ordered to pay £5.10 compensati­on, £30 surcharge and costs of £150.

■Rachel Milnes, 32, of Queen Street, Greetland, Halifax. Entered a train with the purpose of travelling without a valid ticket, in Brighouse, on February 22. Fined £220. Ordered to pay £5.40 compensati­on, £30 surcharge and £150 costs.
