Cup stalemate for Town Women

- By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC By STEVEN CHICKEN @examinerHTAFC

THE Examiner takes a look at what we’ve learned so far under the brief reign of the Cowleys... DANNY Cowley has been forthright about the fact that he sees the 4-2-3-1 Mark Hudson implemented during his caretaker spell as the preferred formation for Town, with a Jan Siewertesque 4-3-3 they played against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday offering an alternative.

The reason it was used then was because of the absence of Alex Pritchard with a knee injury. TOWN Women development team secured a 1-1 draw in the first match of the Reserve League Cup group stages with the first half scored by Emily Cahill. Next Sunday they are away to Chorley Reserves, 2pm kick off.

Meanwhile, Town Women under-16s kicked off their season with a fine 2-0 victory at Barnsley. The game was a tight affair with both teams starting well with Town just shading the first half and coming close when Isobella Kington fired narrowly wide after a splendid build up down the left hand side.

In the second half Town took control with two one-on-ones finished decisively by player of the match Kington. The home team rarely troubled keeper Keira Millward. A good, battling performance from everyone saw Town deservedly take the points.

A special mention for Millie Rumney for a composed performance at right-back and the excellent Alyssa Valenti at left-back on her debut.

Next Saturday the under 16’s travel to Sheffield United Community Ladies, 11am kick off.
