Help us catch sick culprits who killed our beloved pet

FAMILY’S HEARTACHE AS CAT SUFFERS AGONISING DEATH

-

A COUPLE whose cat was killed in horrific circumstances are offering a reward to catch the culprits.

Bryony and Jake Walker, of Skelmanthorpe, were left stunned after the cat, called Beans, was found in a plastic bag with bricks tied around her neck in a water tank at an industrial site.

Bryony said the 18-month-old rescue cat, which they had cared for since she was nine weeks old, had been curled up with them as they watched TV on Friday, September 6.

She had then gone out through the cat flap and never came home.

Bryony, 29, told the Examiner she was devastated by what had happened.

She said: “She was tiny when we got her. Her mum had been ill so even when she was fully grown she was still small.

“She was a bit of a weird cat. She was so attached to Jake and I that she would even come with us when we took our dog to the woods.

“Over the back of our house there is an industrial estate which has cooling tanks.

“As part of our search we went round and asked if they had seen her.

“On Wednesday they called Jake and said they had found a dead cat.

“A member of staff explained something had blocked the pipe and they had pulled out a black bin bag with scratches on it.”

It appears Beans tried desperately to claw her way out of the bag before dying an agonising death.

Bryony added: “I just can’t believe that any human being could do such a thing. We’d had Beans chipped so the vet said he was sure it was her.

“Our street has many cat owners on it so we just want to ensure noone else has to endure what we have had to go through.”

Posting on Facebook she said: “Words can’t begin to describe how we feel.

“This happened on Saville Road, Skelmanthorpe. If you have a cat, you might want to consider keeping them in overnight.

“To the absolute, lowest scumbag who did this, I don’t know how to begin to describe what I think of you, but we will do everything we can to find out who you are and make you pay. I’ll miss you, my girl.”

The couple have reported the incident to police and Bryony says they are certain whoever committed the offence has to be local as only someone familiar with the area would know the industrial estate was there.

They are hoping the crime may have been captured on CCTV.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to reports on September 6 of a cat being killed on Saville Road.

“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact the police online viawww.westyorkshire.police.uk/ contact-usquoting crime reference number 13190480149.”
