AN AGGRESSIVE man shouted “I hope your family die of cancer” in a busy hospital A&E ward.

Evan Ghani was arrested following an assault in the town centre and taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

He became abusive towards police and medical staff and had to be moved to a different part of the hospital because he was causing distress to other patients.

The 35-year-old pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

Vicky Trueman, prosecuting, said that Ghani was taken to the Lindley hospital shortly before 5am on August 10. She said: “He was under arrest and officers say he was swearing and raising his voice in the A&E reception.

“He was told to keep his voice down but got louder and louder.

“Medical staff asked for him to go into a private consultation room to stop other patients from being distressed.”

Ghani became verbally aggressive towards the officers and staff and was warned again about his behaviour.

Ms Trueman said: “He was told to be quiet again and the other patients were pointed out.

“He continued shouting and swearing.

He said: ‘I hope your family die of cancer’ and ‘ I’m just a n****r.’”

These words weren’t directed at anyone in particular but Ghani, of Sheepridge Road in Sheepridge, was arrested for a public order offence.

He was taken to Huddersfield Police Station where he provided a ‘no comment’ interview. His last conviction was in August 2016 for offences of grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was jailed for 14 months after hitting a man on the head with a broken bottle during a row at a taxi office in Huddersfield town centre.

Carl Kingsley, mitigating, explained that on the day of the incident his client had been assaulted in the town centre and police arrived at the scene.

But they instead arrested Ghani for a matter reported by his girlfriend, he said. Deputy District Judge Wajid Khalil said: “You no doubt caused distress and alarm to other patients and staff who were there to assist.”

He fined Ghani £150 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and £32 victim surcharge.

He was told to keep his voice down but got louder and louder..
