SPORT STICK WITH SIMON DAN IS THE MAN

WOOLFORD CAN TURN THINGS AROUND /PAGE 39 TOWN HAVE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE JOB SAYS SINCLAIR

FORMER Huddersfield Town man Frank Sinclair has backed Danny Cowley to make a successful step up from

League One to the Championship.

The Terriers appointed the ex-Lincoln City boss last week with the club second-bottom of the Championship.

Town are on an 18-match winless run in all competitions and have only taken one point from their first seven league fixtures this term.

Jan Siewert was sacked just three games into the season and after weeks of searching, Cowley was chosen as the man to succeed him.

Despite losing their opening match 2-0 to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, many are excited by the appointment of a young, hungry manager, with a point to prove.

It’s those same characteristics that lead Sinclair to believe that the former Imps boss will be a huge success at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Ex-Town defender has admitted it will be a big step up for Cowley but has backed him to turn Huddersfield’s fortunes around.

“It’s a big step up and a tough ask,” Sinclair, who was speaking on behalf of GentingBet, told the Examiner.

“It’s a big change for Huddersfield as well. I don’t think they have had a manager like Danny Cowley in the last few years.

“I hope he does well because he deserves the opportunity for what he did at Lincoln City, which was remarkable really considering what he had to work with.

“It will be a tough ask because it’s a massive jump up to the Championship and to face that level of opposition week in week out.

“I think he can do well there and even just looking at the body language of the players already, it’s a fresh start for them and they seem like they are thriving on that.

“For me first and foremost, financially and just generally they have to stay in the Championship.”
