Newsome brush off Scholes to stay top

NEWSOME remain top of Division 1 after three first half goals, courtesy of Hamlet and Wilkinson (two), saw off Scholes in a 3-0 win.

Berry Brow are in second place thanks to goals from Shooter (three), Oakes and Sartain in a 5-2 away win at Slaithwait­e. Bowen and Spur scored for Slaithwait­e.

Meanwhile, Fothergill and Whittles won a hard-fought game against Skelmantho­rpe 4-2.

Fothergill’s goals came from Else (two) and Fielding (two).

In Division 2 AFC Lindley maintained their lead at the top and their 100 per cent record with a 3-2 win at Kirkheaton with goals from Gilman, Wright and Walsh. Goddard and Sykes replied for the home team. Shelley stay in second with a 10-0 win over Holme Valley Academical­s.

Wadsworth, Parker (four) and Sutcliffe (five) did the damage for Shelley. Almondbury Woolpack overcame Hepworth in a 6-2 win with goals from Wales (two), Gartery and Allert (three). Bruwin and Morell scored for Hepworth.

Meltham stay top of division 3 despite losing 2-0 at home to Grange Moor Saints, who were indebted to Kieron Mayall for both goals. Ianzito and Moyles were the scorers for Kirkburton in their 2-0 win over Brook Motors. Sporting CAV and Deighton shared the spoils in an entertaini­ng 3-3 draw. CAV’s goals came from Dyer, Reaks and Wojciechow­ski. Deighton’s goals came from Stott and Haydn Webster (two). Elsewhere, Scissett won 2-1 away at Huddersfie­ld YM with goals from Humphrey and Lockwood while YM’s goal came from Briggs.

Wooldale won 5-0 for the second week in a row in division 4 with goals from Castle (two), Nicholls and substitute Cliffe (two). Flockton won away at Almondbury Athletic 5-1 with goals from Hague (two) and Conway (three).

Mount drew with Marsh Athletic 2-2. Mount’s goals came from Hodgson and Morris whilst Marsh’s goals came from Crosse and Piercy.

Cleckheato­n came out top in a narrow 3-2 win over Brighouse with goals from Tierney, Fisher and Hogan-Wharton.

In reserve division 1 bottom clubs AFC Dalton and Diggle both picked up their first points in a 4-4 draw. Brown, Edwards, Steele and Miller scored for AFC Dalton whilst Newton, Roberts and super sub Martin (two) scored for Diggle. Moorside stay top with a 9-5 win over Fothergill and Whittles.

Junction stay top of reserve division 2 with a 6-0 win over Holmbridge with goals from Brown, Neary, Uddin and three from McMahon.

In reserve division 3 Almondbury Woolpack won 4-2 away at Berry Brow with goals from Reid (two), Kelly and O’Toole. Hade Edge overran neighbours Scholes in an 8-4 win with goals from Arnold, Dalton, Parkin (two) and four from Dyson.

Kirkburton went top of reserve division 4 with a huge 13-0 win at Hade Edge while Deighton went second with a 5-0 win over Honley.

Linthwaite went over the tops to Fothergill and Whittles and came away with the points in a 5-3 win.
